Home Gym - Do I really need one?

I have been thinking of changing my den into a workout room. I have a treadmill, several exercise and yoga videos, weights and workout mats. I work mostly on my laptop now, so I don't really need an actual den. I thought if I got myself one of those fancy home gyms I would work out more. My husband however, he reminded me that the treadmill is a really expensive quilt holder; the exercise videos are balancing the computer monitor; the weights are in a basket in the closet and the workout mat has been taken over by one of the dogs as a bed. I think he might have a point.

What a difference a humidifier makes!

Living in Arizona, there is not much of what could even remotely be considered moisture in the air. As such, we have really dry skin, dry noses, dry throats and dry hair. We bought a small water fountain to sit on the counter and try to put some moisture into the air here in the house. I was filling it up every other day. Especially in the summer. Recently, my daughter got the flu. I called the doctor because on the third day, she started having nose bleeds. The doctor said it was because of a lack of moisture in our air. He suggested a humidifier. I did not already own one, so I had to buy one. I had no idea there were so many choices! I ended up getting one with changeable humidifier filters, because I figured that would help keep the allergens down also, and maybe, I can cut back on my allergy meds. I run the humidifier all the time now. Our skin feels better, our noses feel better and oddly, we are less thirsty than we used to feel.

Calling the Movers

Sometimes I have a delusion (or illusion, depends on the day) wherein I have my dream job as an appellate attorney, writing appeals and donating my time to the Innocence Project.or a best selling author. I'd take either one. On those fantasy days, I dream that I have all the money I will ever need and because of that, and my ability to work from home in my jammies, I get to travel around the United States looking for a new place to call home that is NOT the scorching desert. I dream of living somewhere on the east coast and of finally making the call to the long distance movers as I pack up the last box of my stuff. Of course, those are fantasies at this point in my life. But, I am young, determined and have moxie. I'll get there. Some day.

Life at 100 mph

Sometimes I feel like life just drags along, taking its own sweet time. Other times it feels like it zooms right past me at 100 mph and I have to stay running along to keep pace. As I deal with my daily life, its ins and outs, ups and downs, I do not really take the time to stop and smell the proverbial roses. Or think about stuff like who will take care of my family if something happens to me. Who will raise my kids? What will I do if something happens to my husband? How would I pay for everything? When I do think of those things it is usually because of a tragedy that I have heard about or that has happened to someone we know. I have made a mental note this year that I will follow up life insurance leads and make sure I have all my ducks in a row. Because as was recently pointed out to me, you never know when life, or death, is going to sneak right up on you.

Just, ick

There are some pieces of modern furniture that I like. Modern dining rooms with clean lines and bright colors appeal to me. I have envisioned a formal dining room for myself that included a chestnut brown table and chairs, with a glass table top. Rich dark wainscoting on the walls and a chartreuse green on the walls. At least, that is what my formal dining room looks like in my head. The sad thing is that as much as I like some modern furniture types, I am not a fan of modern office furniture with all those clean lines and glass. My office currently is 100% modern, glass table, stiff black chair with chrome lines and black filing cabinets. I cannot even sit comfortably in a dress at my desk because there is no shield for my legs. Modern office furniture is just not my style. It is cold and clean. I want warm and cozy. I want to enjoy spending time in my office, not feeling like I'm in a waiting room at a doctor's office.
